Martin and Melanie Stand both grew up in St Boniface Church, benefiting from its Youth Work, which they later went on to lead. Martin and Melanie now live in the North-east with their two sons, aged 8 and 11, and a foster-daughter aged 16 where they lead “Darlington Area Churches’ Youth Ministry”. DACYM is supported by churches of many denominations in that town, and is affiliated to Youth for Christ.
They work in several local secondary schools, providing lunchtime clubs, student support and mentoring, circle time sessions, self-esteem workshops, R E lessons, assemblies and collective worship, social action activities and assisting with school trips. They operate a number of other regular activities, including a weekly evening open “drop-in”, a fortnightly girls’ group, and an annual “Mountain” day, as well as seeking to encourage and support local churches’ work with young people.
