Vicar, Reverend Ray Yates
“I am very pleased to welcome you to St Boniface Church.
It is my hope that you will come to love St Bs as much as I do. We’re a bunch of people who aren’t perfect but we do hope you feel at home here.
We would love very much for you to join our church family but equally want to give you the space to pray about whether St Boniface Church is where God wants you to be.”
Assistant Priest, Reverend Janet Knox
I am a part-time Assistant Priest here alongside having recently been appointed to work part-time with the Church of England round the Birmingham area (Birmingham Diocese) as a ‘Growing Younger Facilitator’! An interesting job title! But it just means that I will be getting alongside other churches, at their invitation, helping them to develop ways of encouraging children and families in their area to explore what it means to know and follow Jesus.
I have lived in Quinton for over 25 years and I love being part of the community here. I especially enjoy being out in the streets, shops and schools chatting with people. In my spare time I enjoy singing in Quinton Community Choir and also sometimes maybe too early in the morning – which can annoy Ray!
Other things which make me happy are my family (I am thrilled to have two grandchildren), friends, food, and holidays in Scotland.
One of my favourite Bible verses is from Psalm 34 verse 18: ‘The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ Having been through some tough times in life I am overwhelmingly grateful for God being my Rock at all times.
Youth Worker, Josh Deeks
Hi I’m Josh and I am the part-time Youth Worker at St B’s. Besides leading the church’s youth I also work for Quinton Youth for Christ supporting them with their after school clubs, mentoring sessions, Unite, and helping them to support local church’s in Quinton. Previous to this role, I worked as a Support Worker for the charity Expectations where I provided pastoral and practical support to vulnerable and homeless male adults. I have been involved in a variety of secular and Christian-based youth work over the past eight years and have also gained a degree from the University of York in Applied Social Science’s: Children and Young People.
I consider it an absolute privilege to be in this role and to be encouraging young people to come to know and love Jesus. I am excited to play my part in the community of Quinton and to be involved in the amazing things God is doing in this part of Birmingham.
I am born and bred in Sheffield but now consider myself an honorary Brummy. Cheers Babs. In my free time I enjoy playing sport (especially football, badminton, and tennis), spending time with my wife Becky, and playing board games. Settlers of Catan anyone?
Trainee Children’s Worker, Anthony Gosling
Hi my name is Anthony Gosling; I am 23 and started as Trainee Children’s Worker in October 2014. I have been going to St Boniface Church since I was 8 and have been volunteering with the children and youth since here since I was 18 years old. I am enthusiastic about serving the community of Quinton by going into schools for assemblies, running after school clubs and providing various groups at St B’s. Before I took on this role I worked at a local school as a lunchtime supervisor, there I was in charge of running football activities and as a team promoting the well-being of the children.
I am excited about learning valuable new skills from the children’s team here at St B’s and also feeding in new and creative ideas to this. I am passionate about children having a safe and comfortable place in which they can share and build relationships. I think we do this very well here and I am proud to contribute to this.
In my spare time I volunteer at the Boy’s Brigade held here at St B’s. I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend Emily and hiking.
